My new favourite chef – moving on from bangers & mash

Well after a spell of maternity leave, I’m back to seeing nutrition clients in Hitchin, and I’m very excited to see a new chef with some gorgeous recipes. If you haven’t seen Tom Kerridge on BBC 1 on Monday nights, tune in for some cooking inspiration. His programme is called Proper Pub Food… but its better than most pub food I’ve heard of! This guy is really passionate about his flavours. Last week’s pollack, chorizo and chick pea stew is a great example. Obviously, chorizo contains high levels of saturated fat and so should be considered a treat rather than a staple. And whilst white fish won’t count towards your omega 3s, nevertheless pollack is still a good source of protein, magnesium, Vitamin B12, phosphorus and selenium. Chick peas are a good source of protein of course as well as iron, vitamin B6, magnesium and potassium, so not a regular meal, but a tasty treat if you’re cooking for friends of family. Serve with a side of lightly steamed green or French beans for an extra dollop of vitamins C & A.

I’m trying it out this week, can’t wait.
